Fruits of Quercus macrolepis are harvested in september-october. After drying and cleaning the valonea, tanning agents are commercialized in two different types:
- as capsules with beards (trillo) or,
- as tanning extracts in powder form.
The tannin content of the cups (capsules) amounts to 25-30 %, that of the beards (trillo) about 35-40 % dry matters.
